The Singapore National Stadium, also known as the Grand Old Dame, was opened in July 1973 at Kallang. The National stadium was used for many purposes such as the National Day Parade held every here and also many soccer events. Finally, after 36 years, the National Stadium would make way for the new sports hub in 2011.
It was just a month ago when I step foot into the National Stadium to watch one of the last soccer matches held there. It was the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008.. As defending champs, Singapore was predicted to win this years cup after the good showing in the group stages. However, thousands of hearts were broken as Singapore fell to the hands of Vietnam in the semi-final.. It was a shock defeat as Singapore was undoubtedly, much better than Vietnam. Leading the Singapore front line, Singapore strikers Noh Alam Shah and Agu Casmir disappointed the fans with their misses.Even so, the Lions put up a great fight and as a die hard fan, I shall be behind them no matter what happens..
It has been at least 1 month since Singapore's shock exit from the Suzuki Cup. Now the Lions are back in the National Stadium with a new goal.. To qualify for the Asian Cup.. Losing against Jordan would be morale-dampening and may dent our hopes of qualifying. Even though Jordan are stronger than Singapore on paper, we may still stand a chance against them. Being the last match in the National Stadium, the Lions must be hoping for a win to end the great history of the Grand Old Dame.

On my way with my father to the National Stadium wearing the red t-shirts we always wear to support the Lions..
The Lions will be facing Jordan there to fight for a place in the Asian Cup. If any of us loses, chances of qualifying may still be high but not so high. Upon reaching the National Stadium, I quickly queued up to get the tickets. Being an hour early, I decide I could take some pictures..
